BRISTOL, R.I.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team defeated host Roger Williams University (3-6) at the Hawks' tri-match on Saturday before falling to UMASS-Dartmouth (5-3) 3-0.
Against the host Hawks, Potsdam took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-22 before falling in the third 25-23. They rebounded to clinch the win in the fourth by a 25-16 score. Senior captain
Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) led the Bears with 16 kills and 21 digs. Sophomore middle hitter
Santara Hart (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) had 11 kills. Senior outside hitter
Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) totaled seven kills and a block. Senior setter
Colleen Murphy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) posted 27 assists and three aces. Freshman setter
Sophia Layer (Winthrop, N.Y./Potsdam) added 19 assists and two aces and senior libero
Enma Bautista (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) had 11 digs and an assist. Senior outside hitter
Abygail Olejnik (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield) posted nine digs and two aces.
Brianna Picchietti paced the Hawks with 14 kills and four blocks. Kristen Dansereau had 10 kills and Lily Winsten had six. Rachel Borzone contributed 12 digs and six aces. Ava Mattiucci had 18 assists and 10 digs and Kaylee Jackson totaled 18 digs and two blocks. Emma Bosco also posted 18 assists.
Potsdam played three tight matches with the Corsairs before falling in each 25-22, 25-22 and 25-19. Hart had another strong contest with six kills and six blocks. Myers added another five kills and three blocks to her totals for the day. Junior outside hitter
Sophia Rowny (Glenville, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had five kills. Murphy finished her day with another 11 assists and an ace. Ader registered 20 digs and sophomore libero
Morgan Buckley (Third Lake, Ill./Grayslake North) posted 19 digs and Olejnik tacked on seven more digs.
Kate Wade had 13 digs and an ace for the Corsairs. Marley Alexander totaled eight kills and two blocks. Devon Laing posted six kills,14 digs and an ace. Sabrina Bordone contributed 15 assists and 15 digs. Emily Pogorelec posted 22 digs.
The Bears are back in action on Friday at SUNY Cortland when they take on the Red Dragons at 6 p.m. in their SUNYAC opener.
