PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Sophomore defender
Julia Tycott (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) and
sophomore forward
Sarah Emmi (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn) scored 4:06 apart in the second half as the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (5-6, 1-3 SUNYAC) rallied past Plattsburgh State (4-4-1, 0-3-1) for a 2-1 win on Wednesday afternoon. Junior goalkeeper
Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) made nine saves as the Bears defeated the Cardinals for just the second time in program history.
The Cardinals pressed the Bears early on. Solid play from Bowie and Potsdam's defense kept Plattsburgh at bay until midway through the first half. At 22:31, Nicole Kingsley finished a pass from Nora Fitzgerald for a 1-0 lead. The score was unchanged at the break. Bowie made five stops through the first 45 minutes.
The Bears closed the gap in play in the second half and finally broke through in the 76th minute. Tycott evened the score at 75:39 with an assist from sophomore midfielder
Mikayla Shipley (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili). It was the first goal of Tycott's collegiate career. Emmi buried a loose ball off a corner at 79:45 for the game-winner. The defense slammed the door the rest of the way, helped by four more stops from Bowie.
Cardinals goalie Lauren Haley made one save for Plattsburgh. Potsdam's only other victory in the series came on September 29, 2018 as the Bears downed the Cards 3-0 in Plattsburgh.
The Bears look to keep their momentum when they take on Oswego State on the road at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
