ALFRED, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (2-1) beat host Alfred University (0-2) 3-2(16-25, 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 15-12) and fell to William Smith (2-0) 0-3 (20-25, 21-25, 19-25) on final day of the Saxon Classic.
In the opener against the Alfred University, the Bears beat the Saxons in 5 sets. Senior outside hitter
Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) had a match high of 16 kills and 23 digs. Junior outside hitter
Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) contributed 11 kills and 1 block for the Bears while Sophomore middle
Santara Hart (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) posted 8 kills and 1 block. Sophomore setter
Colleen Murphy (Clifton Park, N.Y/Shenendehowa) put up 26 assists and freshman setter
Sophia Layer (Winthrop, N.Y./Potsdam) had 20 assists and 13 digs.
For the Alfred University, Jamie Chan led the Saxons with 15 kills, 4 aces and 1 block. Casey Grange posted 11 kills, 2 aces and 1 block while Delaney Sims had 45 assists.
In game two, the Bears fell to the Herons in three sets. Meyers had 8 kills and 1 block for the Bears. Murphy had 14 assists and 5 digs, while Senior outside hitter
Mackenzie Fischer (Cottekill, N.Y./Rondout Valley) had 10 digs against the Herons.
For William Smith, Malya Sayre had 15 kills, 2 aces, 1 block and 1 assist. Elizabeth Telepova posted 10 kills and 2 blocks. Elaina Wamhoff put up 30 assists, while Ariana Angus has 13 digs against the Bears.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday, September 7th at 7 p.m. when they host Paul Smith's at home.
