POTSDAM, N.Y.—Clarkson University (1-0) scored twice in the second half to down the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (1-1) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Bears junior goalie
Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) made five saves on the day.
Scoring chances were difficult to come by in the first half, as both teams managed to combine for just three shots on goal. Clarkson was able to generate more pressure, creating six corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes. Bowie had two saves as the teams headed into the break scoreless.
The Golden Knights turned up the pressure in the second half, more than doubling their overall shots and creating three more corners. At 66:36, Angelina Fahrenkrug buried a pass from Sarah Kohls in the low left corner of the net. Clarkson never relented and nearly 20 minutes later, doubled its advantage. Lillian Gillett also found the back of the net on a helper from Chloe Hodge. The Knights then held off the Bears for the last moments of the contest.
Potsdam looks to bounce back tomorrow at noon when the Bears head down Route 11 to face St. Lawrence University.
