GENESEO, N.Y.—SUNY Geneseo (7-5-3, 3-3-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (3-10-1, 0-9) 4-1 in a SUNYAC contest on Saturday afternoon. Senior captain
Zach Saddlemire (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville) scored for the Bears.
Geneseo pressed Potsdam from the opening kick. Bears senior goalkeeper
Lucas Schiel (Bremen, Germany/Colegio Humboldt) made four stops, but the Knights broke through. At 12:11, Stefen Nikolic finished a feed from Vasion Sinjari to make it 1-0. Potsdam was able to counter at 21:07 as Saddlemire buried a helper from freshman defender
Matthew Mapes (Fort Drum, N.Y./Carthage). The score remained tied until right before the half. At 43:21, Liam Mulderig gave Geneseo the lead for good with an assist from Joe Vogt.
The Knights didn't let up and extended their advantage 3:53 into the second half. Mulderig notched his second to make it 3-1. Geneseo's defense continued to create problems for the Bears as time wound down. With 1:11 left, the Knights tacked on a final goal from Eren Aydin with an assist from goalie Vincent Maronski Jr.
Schiel finished with five saves and Maronski made six stops for the shutout.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday, when they host Keuka College at 4 p.m.
