POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-9-1) scored a season-high six goals in a decisive 6-0 victory over Paul Smith's College (4-6-2) on Wednesday afternoon. Junior forward Payton Snell (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) scored twice for the Bears. Senior forward
Austin Hutchins (Oriskany Falls, N.Y./Waterville) had a goal and two assists and junior captain
Zach Cunningham (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) added two assists.
Snell opened the scoring 5:09 into the contest when Cunningham led him through the defense with a perfect pass. At 18:36, Snell struck again on a helper from Hutchins. Just 36 seconds after play resumed, Potsdam sent a cross toward the net and it was accidentally tipped into the goal by a Bobcat defender. At the 42:04 mark, freshman defender
Matthew Mapes (Fort Drum, N.Y./Carthage) found freshman forward
Michael Figueroa (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) on the right side of the field. Figueroa streaked down the sideline before cutting to the net for his first career goal and sending the Bears into the break with a 4-0 lead.
Hutchins netted his first career goal at 55:32 of the second half. Cunningham picked up his second assist of the game on the play. Potsdam then closed the scoring just 2:19 later when Hutchins set up junior forward

Ian Schwartz (Amsterdam, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) stopped the two shots he faced in the first half before moving out of goal to play up field in the second. Freshman

Evan Jacobs (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) closed out the contest with another two stops in the last 11:26. Freshman goalie Lucas Darling (Groton, N.Y./Groton) started for the Bobcats, allowing four goals and making three saves. Fellow freshman keeper Cazmir Couble (Spofford, N.H./Keene) played the second half, allowing two goals and stopping four shots.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, at 1 p.m. when they host Brockport on Senior Day.
