POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Geneseo (6-2-6, 2-0-5 SUNYAC) scored in each half in a 2-0 win over the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (3-7-2, 1-5-2) on Saturday afternoon at Maxcy Turf Field. Bears senior captain
Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) made 10 saves on the day.
The Knights tested Potsdam's defense early and often, but didn't break through until the 28th minute. At 27:31, Geneseo senior midfielder Lindsey Clar (Scottsville, N.Y./Wheatland-Chili) intercepted a clearing attempt and deposited the ball in the back of the net. Bowie made five saves in the opening 45 minutes and the score was unchanged.
The second half was more tightly contested, but the Knights got some insurance. At 65:07, Bowie charged out to rob senior forward Liv Raucci (Rotterdam, N.Y./Mohonasen). However, Raucci managed to control her rebound and scored on the second attempt.
Knights junior goalie Mollie Collins (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) made two saves in the first 81 minutes to earn the win. Freshman Emily McLouth (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) didn't face a shot in the last nine minutes.
Prior to the game, the Bears honored seniors Bowie, midfielder
Kienle Burns (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) and defender
Sami Dentel (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) for their career on Senior Games.
The Bears are back in action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they host crosstown rival Clarkson University.
