POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (5-14) swept Paul Smith's College (11-7) 3-0 on Wednesday night. Freshman outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) led the Bears with nine kills, seven digs and three aces.
 
The Bears shook off a slow start to win a 25-21 decision in set one. They then took set two from the Bobcats 25-22 before closing out the victory 25-17 in set three. Freshman libero Madison Gilliland (Rossville, Ga./Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe) had 20 digs and two kills. Freshman setter Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) posted a career-high 21 assists. Sophomore setter Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) registered five kills, a personal-best seven aces and 11 digs. Junior defensive specialist Riley McGinn (Albany, N.Y./Albany) had eight digs and two kills.
 
Freshman middle hitter Finnley Jacobson (Vergennes, Vt./Vergennes Union) led Paul Smith's with nine kills, 16 digs and two aces. Sophomore middle blocker Maddie Rhodes (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) had eight kills, nine digs and two aces. Senior setter Avrielle Fletcher (Ovid, N.Y./South Seneca) posted 19 assists and 15 digs and senior outside hitter Alli Cherry (Grasonville, Md./St. Mary's) finished with five kills and 16 digs.
 
The Bears resume conference play this weekend beginning with a 6 p.m. match at SUNY New Paltz on Friday.
