New Paltz sweeps Bears

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.—SUNY New Paltz (16-6, 6-1 SUNYAC) captured a 3-0 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (5-15, 0-6) on Friday night. Junior outside hitter Megan Henry (Candor, N.Y./Candor) led the Bears with six kills and six digs.
 
The host Hawks won 25-11, 25-13 and 25-14 set victories to seal the win. Senior opposite Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) registered three kills, two blocks and two assists. Sophomore setter Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had three kills and eight assists. Freshman libero Madison Gilliland (Rossville, Ga./Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe) posted five digs and senior middle hitter Lexi Price (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) had three blocks.
 
Letisha Perez recorded a game-high 11 kills along with two blocks to lead New Paltz. Mackenzie Williams had eight kills and six digs. Jamie Albrecht added five kills and four blocks. Cate DiGiacomo picked up 17 assists. Melanie Podstupka had eight digs and Samantha Cox finished with three aces and six digs.
 
The Bears head to SUNY Oneonta tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match.
