POTSDAM, N.Y.—Sophomore forward Meg Napoleon (Lyons, N.Y./Newark) scored two goals as the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (3-6-2, 1-4-2 SUNYAC) roughed up Buffalo State (3-6-2, 1-4-2) 5-0 on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Julia Tycott (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) had a goal and an assist for the Bears and senior captain Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) made three saves for her 11th career win and fifth shutout.
 
It was all Potsdam from the outset. Tycott got the Bears on board 9:27 into the game after tipping a perfect pass from junior defender Emma Robbins (Newark, N.Y./Newark) past Bengals junior goalie Sam Kaufman (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca East). At 17:15, Napoleon was hauled down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. She converted for a 2-0 advantage. With 30:18 gone in the contest, junior forward Layla McKeiver (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) finished a feed from sophomore captain Emily Jordan (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) for a 3-0 advantage. Potsdam outshot Buffalo State 11-5 in the first half, with each keeper recording three saves.
 
Just 5:17 into the second half, junior midfielder Leah Karabaich (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) buried a pass from Tycott after a rebound off a shot from freshman forward Adrianna Orlando (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). The Bears kept coming. At 78:30, Napoleon trapped a Bengals clearing attempt and went in all alone to close the scoring at 5-0.
 
Kaufman finished with three saves for Buffalo State. Potsdam finished with a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corners.
 
The Bears are back in action in one week when they host SUNY Geneseo at 1 p.m.
