Lakers rally past Bears, 3-2

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Oswego State (4-1, 1-2 SUNYAC) rallied from a 2-1 deficit before downing the SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (4-11, 0-4) 3-2. Sophomore setter Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had a match-best 38 assists to go with two blocks for the Bears.
 
The Lakers took set one 25-22 before Potsdam answered with 25-12 and 25-21 victories. On the brink, Oswego managed a 25-18 set four win to even the contest and then captured a 15-10 win in set five.
 
Junior opposite Alyssa Adams (Jamestown, N.Y./Randolph) continued her strong weekend with 18 kills and four aces. Junior outside hitter Megan Henry (Candor, N.Y./Candor) contributed 11 kills and senior opposite Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) registered seven kills, nine digs and two blocks. Freshman libero Madison Gilliland (Rossville, Ga./Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe) had 28 digs and freshman outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) added 13. Senior middle hitter Lexi Price (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) rounded out the leaders with a contest-best three blocks.
 
Senior middle hitter Georgia Farry (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) led the way for the Lakers with 19 kills. Senior outside hitter Sydney Chiffriller (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) totaled 16 kills and a block. Junior outside hitter Cara Simplicio (Victor, N.Y./Victor) had 12 kills, 14 digs and four aces. Senior setter Nyah Dias (Brooklyn, N.Y./Park Slope Collegiate) posted 31 digs. Senior libero Kaylee Troy (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown West) had 19 digs and junior defensive specialist Madison Gordon (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) finished with 13.
 
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Plattsburgh State for a  6 p.m. match.
