CANTON, N.Y.—SUNY Canton (1-8) claimed the North Country Tournament consolation game with a 5-4 overtime victory against the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (1-7) on Sunday night. Senior forward

Michael Olszewski (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Cobourg Cougars) each scored for the Bears. Hamilton College defeated Trine University 4-0 in the championship game during the afternoon.
The Kangaroos struck quickly as Evan Pringle scored just 1:39 into the contest. Canton penalty trouble got Potsdam back in the game. The Roos took a faceoff violation penalty at 7:15. At 8:29, Loran fired a rebound into the right side of the net to tie the game. Freshman defenseman

Jakub Hall (Anchorage, Alaska/Richmond Generals) picked up the assists. Just 10 seconds later the Bears went back on the power play. At 10:05, Hoehn gave the Bears the lead on a shot off the crossbar from the right faceoff circle. Sophomore defenseman
Michael Campbell (Toronto, Ontario/Jersey Whalers) and sophomore forward
Ryan Mahlmeister (Massapequa, N.Y./PAL Islanders) had the helpers. After having a goal waved off for a high stick, Canton got even on a goal from Niko Schoner at 17:33. The score remained tied after 20 minutes. Potsdam outshot the Roos 15-10 and was 2-for-3 on the power play.
Canton bounced back in the second period, outshooting the Bears 14-10. At 15:57, Sebastien Paquette put the Roos back in front 3-2. Less than two minutes later, Potsdam went on the power play again, but couldn't get even before the second intermission.
Bifolchi struck at 2:57 of the third period to tie the score. Sophomore forward
Max Klanow (Holly, Mich./Hawkesbury Hawkes) and freshman forward
Andrew Gubbins (South Pomfret, Vt./Seahawks Hockey Club) assisted on the goal. The point was the first of Gubbins' collegiate career. Less than three minutes later, the Bears jumped back in front. Olszewski made it 4-3 with an unassisted marker. Potsdam was unable to add to the advantage with back-to-back power plays in the following minutes. With 1:14 on the clock, Canton pulled goalie Kelson Hooper for an extra attacker. Just 11 seconds later, Paquette knotted the score and sent the contest to overtime.
The Roos captured the victory as Schoner scored on the first shot of the extra session, just 26 seconds in.
Junior goalie
John Werber (Skillman, N.J./Team Maryland) finished with 28 saves for the Bears. Hooper stopped 30 shots to earn the win. Potsdam was 2-for-6 on the power play and Canton was just 0-for-1.
Klanow represented Potsdam on the all-tournament team.
The Bears are back in action on Friday when they host No. 8 Oswego State at 7 p.m.
