POTSDAM, N.Y.—Morrisville State (1-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) scored three times in the third period to overcome the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (1-2, 0-1) 5-4 on Saturday night in the SUNYAC opener. Sophomore forward

Quesnel opened the scoring at 6:43 of the first period, tipping a shot from sophomore defenseman
Michael Campbell (Toronto, Ontario/Jersey Whalers) past Morrisville senior goalie Ryan Creenan (Colonia, N.J./Richmond Generals). Mahlmeister picked up the second assist. The Mustangs answered with a power-play goal at 12:17. Senior forward Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y./Hampton Roads Whalers) sent the teams into the first intermission tied at one.
The Bears jumped back in front just 41 seconds into the second period as Mahlmeister finished a pass from Loran. Junior captain
Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets) had the second assist. Less than three minutes later, Doughart-Wood scored his first career goal from on a high shot from the left point. Rose had the only assist. The goal chased Creenan from the contest. He was replaced by senior Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/Milton Menace). At 11:22, Morrisville senior forward Brett Tibbs (Mt. Airy, Md./Islanders Hockey Club) scored to close the gap to 3-2.
Morrisville kept coming in the third period. Senior defenseman Robert Haak (Spencerport, N.Y./New England Wolves) tied the game on a power-play goal at 4:23. Loran answered 37 seconds later with a helper from sophomore forward
Mathieu Parent (Kapukasing, Ontario/Renfrew Wolves) and the Bears led 4-3. The Mustangs rallied again at 9:33 as senior forward Stevie Gerbis (Bradenton, Fla./New England Generals) found the equalizer. With just 1:16 on the clock, Morrisville completed the comeback as senior forward Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla./Buffalo Regals) deposited a turnover into the net for the game-winner. John Werber (Skillman, N.J./Team Maryland) was pulled with 1:01 left, but Potsdam fell just short.
Werber finished with 32 saves. Creenan allowed three goals and made 12 saves in the first 23:13. Boyonoski made 28 saves and allowed a goal in the last 36:47 to pick up the win.
The Bears outshot the Mustangs 44-37. Potsdam was 0-for-3 on the power play and Morrisville was 2-for-3.
Potsdam is back in action on Friday when the Bears host Brockport for a 7 p.m. contest.
