No. 6 Lakers overpower Bears

OSWEGO, N.Y.—Sixth-ranked Oswego State (6-0, 1-0 SUNYAC) pulled away from the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-5, 0-1) for a 98-60 victory on Friday evening. Freshman guard Nicholas Cortez (New York, N.Y./Forest Hills) led the Bears with a career-high 10 points.

Potsdam started strong and gave as good as they got over the first 10 minutes of the first half. Senior guard Isaac Oduro Jr. (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) opened the contest with back-to-back baskets to give the Bears a 4-0 lead. A dunk from junior forward Shaheed Alcide (Queens, N.Y./Cambria Heights Academy) made it 8-4 at 17:18. The Lakers slowly gained the upper hand. Alcide scored on a layup at 10:15 and got the Bears within 20-17. Oswego then stepped on the gas and closed the half on a 28-11 flurry. The Lakers led 48-28 at the break. Oswego continued to expand its lead through the second half.

Freshman guard Erik Wall (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) had a personal-best eight points. Alcide and junior forward Parker Kelly (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) each scored seven points.
