Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Bears banish Blue Devils for SUNYAC victory, 3-1

FREDONIA, N.Y.—Senior forward Michael Olszewski (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Cobourg Cougars) scored twice for the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (2-9, 1-6 SUNYAC) as the Bears defeated SUNY Fredonia (3-8, 3-5) 3-1 on Friday evening. Sophomore defenseman Michael Campbell (Toronto, Ontario/Jersey Whalers) also scored for the Bears and freshman Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) made 32 saves for his first career victory.

Potsdam struck twice in the first period. Olszewski opened the scoring at 6:36 with an assist from freshman forward Jack McCandless (Victor, N.Y./Richmond Generals). Campbell made it 2-0 at 13:34 with a helper from senior defenseman Tyler Lisieski (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Vermont Lumberjacks). Perno stopped all nine shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes.

Fredonia outshot the Bears 17-9 in the second period, despite Potsdam earning the only power play. However, neither team was able to find the back of the net and the score was unchanged. Perno stopped 17 more shots to stay perfect through two periods.

The Blue Devils finally got on the board 2:27 into the third period. Antoine St. Onge made it a 2-1 contest. The Bears regained their two-goal advantage at 9:14. Sophomore froward Max Klanow (Holly, Mich./Hawkesbury Hawks) set up Olszewski's second tally to close the scoring at 3-1. At 17:53, Fredonia pulled goalie Logan Dyck for an extra attacker, but wasn't able to make up any ground.

Dyck finished with 26 for the Blue Devils. Both teams were 0-for-2 on the man advantage.

The Bears wrap up the semester tomorrow night when they travel to Buffalo State for a 7 p.m. contest.
