CASTLETON, VT.—Senior forward
Catherine Proulx (Rockland, Ontario/Post University) and junior forward
Lyvia Chambers (Buffalo, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) each scored as the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (5-6) defeated Rivier University (4-5-3) 2-0 in the consolation of Castleton's Bagley Invitational. Sophomore goalie
Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made nine saves for her second career shutout.
The Bears controlled the play from the outset, outshooting the Raiders 15-4 in the first period. Proulx got Potsdam on the board at 8:55 with a power-play goal. Graduate student assistant captain
Alex Quinn (Potsdam, N.Y./St. Lawrence Steel) and graduate student forward
Megan Teachout (Auburn, N.Y./Oswego State) had the assists.
It was more of the same in the second period, as Potsdam peppered Rivier goalie Rachel Hinkley with 14 more shots, while allowing just four. Chambers doubled the lead with the contest's final goal at 15:07 on a helper from freshman forward
Elise Clifford (Auburn, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles).
There was no scoring in the third period despite a 13-1 shot advantage for the Bears. Rivier had a power play during the final 20 minutes, but wasn't able to generate any pressure.
Hinkley stopped 40 shots for the Raiders. Rivier was 0-for-3 on the power play and the Bears were 1-for-2.
Potsdam is now off until Friday, January 5, when the Bears travel to Nashua, N.H. for a two-game series at Rivier.
