PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Seventh-ranked Plattsburgh State (17-5-2, 10-2-1 SUNYAC) scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (5-18-1, 3-11) for a 5-3 win on Friday night. Graduate student forwards
Robert Clerc (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Oswego State) and
Michael McArthur (St. Thomas, Ontario/Oswego State) each scored for the Bears, as did senior forward
Justin Vernace (Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Admirals). Senior goalie

The Cardinals started quickly with two goals in a 29-second span in the first three minutes. Jake Lanyi opened the scoring at 2:09 and Adam Tretowicz made it 2-0 Plattsburgh at 2:38. Clerc answered for Potsdam at 6:25 with helpers from sophomore defenseman
Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets) and junior forward
Jack Loran (Massena, N.Y./New England Wolves). At 14:06, McArthur evened the contest with a power-play goal. Freshman forward
Mason Hoehn (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Richmond Generals) and senior defenseman
Ryan Lieth (Warwick, N.Y./New York Apple Core) had the assists. The score was 2-2 after 20 minutes.
A power-play goal from Mitchell Hale at 4:49 put the Plattsburgh back out in front and sparked the Cardinals' offense. Paul Bryer scored the eventual game-winner at 11:52 and Lanyi buried his second of the game at 18:43 to extend the lead to 5-2.
Potsdam evened the play a bit in the third. Vernace got the Bears back within two just 3:43 into the final stanza. With under three minutes to go, Green was pulled twice for an extra attacker, but Potsdam couldn't get any closer.
Jacob Herne made 25 saves to earn the victory for the Cardinals. Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play.
The Bears are off until next Saturday, when they host Morrisville State at 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
