ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (4-8) fell to ninth-ranked Nazareth College (12-0) 3-0 before rallying to defeat SUNY Poly (2-6) 3-2 on Friday night in Rochester.
The host Golden Flyers took the opener by 25-15, 25-22 and 25-23 scores. Graduate student outside hitter
Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the Bears with eight kills and junior middle hitter
Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) had seven kills. Sophomore middle hitter
Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) added six kills, four blocks and an ace. Graduate student setter
Cooper Colesante (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) had a match-best 24 assists along with four blocks and a dig. Senior outside hitter
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) had six digs.
Owen Wickens paced Nazareth with 12 kills and five digs. Alex Bertino posted eight kills. Max Stuver had six kills, five digs, three blocks and 16 assists. Trent Caviness and AJ Burda registered 10 and nine assists, respectively. Seth Terzo led Nazareth with eight digs.
SUNY Poly won set one 25-22 and the Bears answered with a 26-24 set two victory. After the Wildcats took set three 25-16, Potsdam closed out the match with 25-23 and 15-10 set wins. Zimmerman continued his strong play with 14 more kills, 12 digs and two aces. Hendler contributed 13 kills and three blocks and Kilinski had nine kills. Colesante registered 37 assists and eight digs. Freshman outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) finished with 12 digs and three aces.
Jason Aubrey led the SUNY Poly with a match-best 17 kills along with 11 digs, three blocks and two aces. Clark Kohei had 13 kills and Peter Gottler notched 11. Nathan Farnham registered 52 assists, 13 digs and five blocks and Jacob Wicher recorded 14 digs and four assists.
The Bears face Trine University at Nazareth on Saturday at noon before heading home.
