POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (6-9) split in its home opener with a 3-0 win against Hilbert College (2-9) and a 3-1 loss to Mount. St. Joseph University (4-4) on Friday afternoon during a tripleheader in the Maxcy Hall Field House. Graduate student outside hitter
Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) leads the Bears offensively in both games, tallying a total of 30 kills.
After falling 25-21 to the Lions in set one, the Bears claimed the second set 25-22. The Lions took the third and fourth sets by identical 25-23 and 25-23 scores to notch the victory. Zimmerman had the game-high in kills with 17, Zimmerman also recorded three blocks and two assists. Sophomore middle hitter Ryan Bollahauer (Cincinnati Ohio/LaSalle) had 15 kills and two blocks for Mount St. Joseph. Graduate student setter
Cooper Colesante (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) tallied 34 assists and 10 digs for the Bears. Sophomore setter Ben Carmosino (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) led in assists with 39 and recorded eight digs for the Lions.
Mount St. Josephs went on to sweep Hilbert 3-0 (25-17, 25-17 and 25-22) in the second match.
Potsdam rattled off three straight set wins to defeat Hilbert (25-21, 25-20 and 25-19) for its sixth win of the season. Graduate student setter
Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) tallied one ace and 23 assists for the Bears. Potsdam senior outside hitter
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) recorded a block and 13 digs. The Hawks were led by sophomore outside hitter Brad Converse (Wheatfield, N.Y./Starpoint), who tallied nine kills, three aces, one block and seven digs. Freshman outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West was strong for the Bears with 10 digs and an ace.
The Bears host another double header tomorrow starting at 10am, rematching Mount St. Josephs and then facing Carlow University at 2 p.m.
