POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (8-9) bounced backed from Friday's loss against Mount St. Joseph University (3-5) to win 3-1 before sweeping Carlow University (0-7) 3-0 on Saturday.
The Bears took the morning match in four sets by 25-16 in the first set, 25-20 in the second set, before dropping the third set to the Lions 25-20. In a closely contested fourth set Potsdam came out on top with a score of 27-25. Freshman outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) led the Bears with 15 kills and 14 digs. Graduate student outside hitter
Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) was also essential in Potsdam's first match with 14 kills and two aces. Junior middle hitter
Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) and sophomore middle hitter
Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) both had eight kills while they had five and six blocks, respectively. Graduate student setter
Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) tallied three blocks as he led the Bears in assists for the match with 47. Senior outside hitter
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) had six digs along with seven kills while junior outside hitter
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) had 14 digs.
Kyle Rees led Mount St. Joseph with 18 kills and ten digs. Ryan Bollhauer posted 17 kills, five blocks and six digs. Ben Carmosino had 40 assists for Mount St. Joseph along with five digs and an ace. Logan Essen tallied 17 digs while Jude Lewis made ten digs and nine kills.
The Bears swept the Celtics in three sets as they scored 25-15, 25-16, and 25-19 to close out the weekend. Tenhagen had another strong showing with nine kills, six digs, and six aces. Junior middle hitter
Sean Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) contributed nine kills of his own and tallied two blocks. Roy led the Bears in assists again contributing 18 assists and an ace. Junior setter
Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) recorded 12 assists and added five digs. Rogers contributed six kills along with three blocks and Kilinski tallied four kills and led the Bears with five blocks.
Russ Cyprowski led the Carlow men with a match-best ten kills along with three digs and one ace. Colin Wiegand was right behind on the score sheet tallying nine kills, four digs, an assist and a block. Coulter Chaffee made 18 assists along with contributing three kills, two digs, a block and an ace. James Stone had seven digs for the Celtics as he made two aces and three assists.
In the neutral site contest, Hilbert College (3-9) swept Carlow 3-0.
The Bears will head to Aurora, N.Y. next to face Geneva College at Wells College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
