Bears split at Springfield Tri-Match

SPRINGFIELD, MASS.-The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (3-7) defeated regionally ranked Rivier University (1-3) 3-2 and fell to host, No. 4 Springfield College (7-1) 3-0 on Saturday evening. Graduate Student outside hitter Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the Bears with 21 kills. Senior outside hitter Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) had nine kills.
 
In the opener against the Raiders, Potsdam went the distance with scores of 27-25, 25-23, 26-28, 20-25, 15-11. Zimmerman led the Bears with match-high 18 kills and 13 digs. Rogers and junior middle Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) registered eight kills against the Raiders. Graduate student setter Cooper Colesante (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) contributed a match high of 43 assists.
 
Isaac Brogers led the Raiders with 16 kills. Ethan Soltis had 42 assists and 11 digs while Thomas Miller had a match-high of 19 digs against the Bears.
 
Against the fourth ranked-Pride, Potsdam fell by 25-18, 25-12 and 25-15 counts. First-year student outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) led the Bears with five kills. Junior setter Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) recorded 11 assists, and one kill. Zimmerman finished the match with three kills and five digs.

Jerrett Anderson led Springfield with eight kills. Ethan Weislo had a match-high of 26 assists and Braden Gonzales led Springfield with four digs.

The Bears head to Nazareth College next Friday, to take on the host Golden Flyers and SUNY Poly.
