POTSDAM, N.Y.—No. 14 St. Lawrence University (1-0) got off to a quick start and defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (0-1) 19-8 on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore attackman
Owen Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) led the Bears with two goals and an assist. Senior captain
Peyton Walsh (Ballsto Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) had two goals and sophomore midfielder
Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) had a goal and an assist.
Saints junior midfielder Judge Murphy (Cohasset, N.Y./Brooks School) opened the scoring 35 seconds into the contest. Rose answered for Potsdam 27 seconds later to tie the game. SLU then scored the next nine straight on its way to an 11-2 halftime lead.
Owen Walsh had Potsdam's other first half goal with 2:48 left in the second.
The Bears nearly kept Pace with the Saints in the last two quarters, edging Potsdam 4-3 in each. Sophomore midfielder
Ryan Hughes (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) scored a man-up goal with an assist from Rose a minute into the third quarter. Senior captain
Ayden LaFave (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) finished a feed from
Owen Walsh to make it 12-4 at 12:23 of the third.
Owen Walsh then followed with another man-up marker at 9:26. SLU led 15-5 after three quarters.

Bryce Tyler (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills) scored back-to-back at 7:26 and 5:57 to get the Bears with in 16-7. The Saints answered with three in-a-row before
Peyton Walsh closed the scoring with 1:36 left.

Liam O'Neil (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made six saves and allowed 11 goals in the first half for the Bears. Freshman
Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) allowed eight goals and made nine saves in the second half. Saints sophomore Michael Marinello (Sherborn, N.Y./Bellmont Hill School) earned the win, stopping 11 shots and allowing five goals in the first 43:59 to earn the win. Senior Elliott LaGorce (Summit, N.J./The Pingry School) made two saves and allowed a goal in the next 9:04. Junior Andrew Vona (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury) allowed two goals in the last 6:57.
Murphy led the Saints offensively with four goals and three assists. Junior midfielder Ben Hutchinson (Marblehead, Mass./Holderness School) had three goals and three assists. Graduate student attackman Mark Maloney (Canton, N.Y./Hotchkiss) added two goals and three assists and senior attackman Chase Malatesta (Lebanon, N.J./Seton Hall) chipped in three goals and an assist. Graduate student attackman Stew Hutchinson (Marblehead, Mass./Holderness) rounded out the leaders with three goals.
SLU was 3-for-9 on the man advantage and Potsdam went 2-for-7.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they travel to SUNY Poly for a 3 p.m. contest.
