POTSDAM, N.Y.—Clarkson University (2-0) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team 25-6 in the season opener on Wednesday. Sophomore midfielder Mia Martin (Six Nations, Ontario/McKinnon Park Secondary) led the Bears with two goals and an assist and junior attack AnnaBelle Mitchell (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) had two goals. Freshman midfielder Megan MacWilliams (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) and senior attack Anita Reitano (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) also scored for the Bears.
 
The Golden Knights started quickly and led throughout. Lauren Shanahan led all scorers with six goals and two assists. Lauren Meyers had four goals and an assist. Mia Petrone and Chrissy Benedict each contributed three goals and an assist. Hailey Millington rounded out Clarkson's leaders with three goals.
 
Junior midfielder Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena), senior attack Hannah Stevenson (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams), freshman midfielder Auna Shadle (Massena, N.Y./Massena) and sophomore attack Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) each had two draw controls. Stevenson and senior defender Lauren Martin (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) also caused two turnovers apiece.
 
The Bears are back in action on Monday in South Carolina. They will face Emmanuel College at the Bluffton Recreation Complex at 11 a.m.
