ALBANY, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (13-12,3-1 NECC) swept Russell Sage College (4-22,0-4 NECC) 3-0 for their third conference victory in a row before falling to No. 4 Springfield College (18-2) 0–3 on Saturday.
The Bears took the noon match in three sets, by scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-18. Graduate student outside hitter
Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the Bears in Potsdam's first match with eight kills, four aces, and six digs. Junior middle hitter
Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) followed closely behind Zimmerman with seven kills and four blocks against the Gators. Freshman outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) tallied six kills and four digs for the Bears while junior outside hitter
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) had five digs. Graduate student setter
Cooper Colesante (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) led Potsdam with 13 assists. Junior setter
Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and senior outside hitter Zaire Rodgers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) tallied eight and five assists, respectively.
Deshawn Fleary led Russell Sage College with six kills, six digs, and one block. Wylkins Occelin followed with five kills of his own. Elijah Tortorici rounded out the Gators offense with three kills, one assist, and seven digs. Andrew Samson led the defense with five blocks while Ryan Jennings contributed three blocks and 12 assists.
The Bears fell in their neutral site contest against No. 4 Springfield in three sets, by scores of 15-25, 21-25, and 15-25. Zimmerman led Potsdam with nine kills, three digs, one ace, and a block in the contest. Colesante contributed 14 assists while making three kills and a block for the Bears. Rogers contributed another four kills along with four digs. Junior middle hitter
Sean Murray(Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) contributed three blocks.
Jarrett Anderson led Springfield with a match-best 13 kills along with three digs, two aces, and two blocks. Dylan Mulvaney tallied 29 assists of his own while also making five digs. Chris Rouleau made five kills and four blocks while Noah Weislo made six kills. Ryan Roller had four aces while Kohler Talon recorded three aces.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow when they face host Bard College at 11 a.m. and John Jay College in a 1 p.m. neutral site contest.
