ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (15-12, 4-1 NECC) swept conference foe Bard College (6-12, 1-3 NECC) 3-0 for their fourth consecutive conference win. In the second matchup, Potsdam handled John Jay College (14-8) 3-1 to secure their 15th overall victory this season.
The Bears took the morning match against Bard College in three sets, by scores of 25-10, 25-18, and 25-12. Graduate student outside hitter
Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) paced the Bears with 10 kills. Junior middle hitter
Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) tallied eight kills, two aces, and one block in an all-around performance. Freshman outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) registered seven kills, three aces, and five digs to compliment his teammates. Senior outside hitter
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) posted four kills and five digs while junior middle hitter
Sean Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) recorded three kills. Graduate student setter
Cooper Colesante (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) contributed 25 assists, seven digs, and two aces to round out Potsdam's leaders.
Ty McGlynn led Bard with nine kills. Angel Obergh followed with five kills and five digs of his own. Georgi Chikolov tallied 15 assists and one ace for the Raptors.
The Bears were victorious in their neutral site matchup against John Jay College in four sets, by scores of 25-14, 25-14, 23-25, and 26-24. Zimmerman posted a game-high 19 kills with seven digs. Rogers recorded eight kills and tied his career-high with three aces for Potsdam. Hendler also tallied a personal-best four aces along with seven kills. Tenhagen registered five kills, two aces, and a personal-best 15 digs in the contest. Colesante posted 36 assists along with five kills and eight digs. On defense, junior outside hitter
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) led the Bears with 17 digs while Murray and Colesante assisted on eight and six blocks, respectively.
Kyle Bariffe Johnson paced the Bloodhounds with nine kills and made two solo blocks. Jack Nugent recorded eight kills and one ace while Logan Ramos posted a stat line of six kills, 16 assists, and a game-high 29 digs.
After today's matches, Zimmerman has officially eclipsed 1,000 kills for his collegiate career, 622 of those kills in two seasons with the Bears.
The Bears are back in action next weekend when they host conference rivals Endicott College at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Nichols College at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
