Knights overpower Bears in conference opener

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo (3-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) overpowered the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (2-4, 0-1 SUNYAC) 21-2 in their conference opener on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and senior defense Marley Hawthorne (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) each scored for the Bears.
 
The Knights started scoring quickly and kept the lead for the remainder of the contest. Emily Salanger and Reegan Vorgang each had four goals to lead all scorers. Megan Cook registered three goals and three assists. Alaina Reina tallied three goals and one assist. Caitlyn Korzeniewski had two goals and three assists while Maira Brennan contributed two goals and one assist to round out Geneseo's leaders.
 
Sophomore attack Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) led the Bears with three draw controls. Junior midfielder Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) caused one turnover.
 
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to SUNY Cortland for a 4 p.m. face-off with the Red Dragons.
