Bears fall at No. 20 Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y.—No. 20 SUNY Cortland (6-3, 2-0 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (2-5, 0-2) 23-6 on Wednesday afternoon. Senior attack Anita Reitano (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) led the Bears with two goals and an assist.
 
After a tight first quarter, the Red Dragons pulled away with nine goals in the second. Senior defender Marley Hawthorne (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs), sophomore midfielder Mia Martin (Six Nations, Ontario/McKinnon Park Secondary), sophomore attack Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) and junior midfielder Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) also scored for the Bears. LaDue also contributed four draw controls and three ground balls.
 
Rachel Jaris led Cortland with three goals and four assists for seven points. Toni Cashman (2-3-5), Lauren Hopsicker (3-2-5) and Hannah Keech (4-1-5) each registered five points for the Red Dragons.
 
Freshmen Jane Olszewski (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) and Olivia Minarich (Albany, N.Y./Albany) each played a half for the Bears in goal, totaling four and three saves, respectively. Margaret Morgan went the distance for Cortland, making six saves to earn the win.
 
Reitano now has 153 points on 95 goals and 58 assists. She ranks sixth in goals and points in program history.
 
The Bears are back home to host SUNY Brockport on Saturday at 11 a.m.
