Red Dragons upend Potsdam, three Bears reach milestones

ONEONTA, N.Y.—SUNY Oneonta (5-7, 4-2 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (2-10, 0-7 SUNYAC) 21-7 on Wednesday afternoon. Senior attack Anita Reitano (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) had four points on three goals and an assist for the Bears. Sophomore attack Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) scored twice and junior captain Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) had a goal and an assist.
 
After the Red Dragons opened the scoring, Reitano tied the game with Potsdam's first goal at 12:29. She struck again just over three minutes later to cut Oneonta's lead to 3-2. The Red Dragons then seized control of the contest with a big run.
 
Junior attack AnnaBelle Mitchell (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) had the Bears' other goal and senior captain Hannah Stevenson (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) added an assist. LaDue also had two caused turnovers and three draw controls. Sophomore defender Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) had two ground balls and three draw controls. Marks also collected six draw controls.
 
Megan Foiles led Oneonta with 11 points on eight goals and three assists. Lauren Mancini had four goals and two assists and Cassidy Moore registered two goals and four assists.
 
Freshman goalie Olivia Minarich (Albany, N.Y./Albany) made seven saves and allowed 15 goals in the first half for the Bears. Freshman goalie Jane Olszewski (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) stopped six shots and allowed six goals in the second half.
 
Three Bears reached significant career milestones during the contest. Reitano reached 101 goals and moved into a tie for fourth place on the all-time scoring list with Murphy Newman '17 with 160 points. Stevenson became the 12th Bear to reach 100 career points (61g-39a). Marks surpassed the 100-draw control plateau, and currently has 105. She ranks eighth in program history.
 
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, when they host SUNY Fredonia at 11 a.m. on Senior Day.
