Anita Reitano (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) led the Bears with three goals and two assists. She now has 172 (107g-65a) career points, moving past Hall of Famer Alisha Schaad-Waite '08 into third place on Potsdam's all-time scoring list. Sophomore attack
Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) had three goals and five draw controls.
Canton scored four of the contest's first five goals, a goal and two assists coming from senior midfielder Samantha Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y./SUNY Poly), and led 4-1 at 6:32 of the first quarter. Junior attack
AnnaBelle Mitchell (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) got the Bears on the board at 8:49 and freshman midfielder
Megan MacWilliams (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) netted a man-up marker at 4:47. The Kangaroos led 4-2 after 15 minutes.
Sophomore defender
Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and Marks scored back to back to even the contest at 8:33 of the second quarter. Reitano assisted on Marks' goal. Dayter scored the next two to put Canton back on top at 6:52. Junior captain
Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) set up Marks' second goal at 6:21 and Reitano tied the game at 6-6 with 5:10 left in the half. Dayter sandwiched two more tallies around Marks' third goal and the Roos led 8-7 at the break.
Reitano struck just 1:33 into the second half to tie the game a final time. However, Canton finished the contest on an 11-1 run. Dayter scored three more goals and assisted on six others to close the game with eight goals and eight assists for 16 points.
Freshman goalie
Olivia Minarich (Albany, N.Y./Albany) allowed eight goals and made four saves in the first half for Potsdam. Fellow freshman
Jane Olszewski (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) allowed 11 goals and made two stops in the second half. Canton senior goalie Olivia Scott (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) made 12 saves to earn the win.
The Bears head to Buffalo State on Saturday for an 11 a.m. matchup with the Bengals.
