PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.— Freshman midfielder Tyler Gould (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) scored with 1:03 left in the first overtime to give the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (7-7, 1-5 SUNYAC) an 11-10 victory over Plattsburgh State (2-12, 0-6) on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore attackman Owen Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) led the Bears with four points on two goals and two assists and Gould was right behind with a career-high three goals and sophomore midfielder Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) scored twice.

After the Cardinals opened the scoring 1:14 into the contest, Owen Walsh evened the game at 13:08. The Bears then scored three of the final four goals of the first quarter. Gould tied the game at 2-2 at 7:13 with an assist from senior captain Ayden LaFave (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River). Owen Walsh struck again at 1:15 to tie the game at 3-3 and then senior captain Bryce Tyler (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills) gave Potsdam its first lead 14 seconds later.

Plattsburgh scored twice to open the second quarter, but the Bears answered with four of the next five goals. After another Plattsburgh goal, Rose struck again with 2:05 left, and Potsdam took an 8-6 lead into the break.

The third quarter saw just three goals scored. Senior forward Peyton Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) gave the Bears a 9-7 lead with 59 seconds remaining. Plattsburgh struck with 18 seconds left and Potsdam was up just one after 45 minutes.

Gould gave Potsdam a 10-8 advantage at 9:37 of the fourth quarter. However, two goals in a 14-second span of the final minute got Plattsburgh even at 10-10 with 40 seconds on the clock and sent the contest to overtime.

Plattsburgh took the first shot of the overtime, but Bears freshman goalie Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) made the save. 1:01 later, Gould completed his hat trick with the game-winner.

Thompson finished with a career-high 19 saves to earn his second career victory. Dan Clements made 11 stops for the Cardinals.
