POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (3-6) finished its weekend the same way it started, with a split of invading opponents. The Bears fell to Hilbert College (6-5) 3-2, before bouncing back to down Northern Vermont University – Johnson (2-7) 3-0.
After falling in the first set to the Hawks 25-21, Potsdam rallied for 25-17 and 25-21 wins. Hilbert answered with a 25-23 win in set four and a 16-14 win in set five. Senior opposite
Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) recorded a career-high 13 kills to lead the Bears' offense. Junior opposite
Alyssa Adams (Jamestown, N.Y./Randolph) had 10 kills and 18 digs. Junior middle hitter
Santara Hart (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) recorded eight kills and two blocks. Sophomore setter
Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had a career-high 39 assists along with two aces. Freshman libero Madison Gilliand (Rossville, Ga./Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe) picked up a personal best 28 digs and freshman outside hitter
Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) contributed a career-high 24 digs and three aces.
Junior middle blocker Maria Spinelli (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) paced the Hawks with 16 kills and a block. Sophomore opposite Michaela Rice (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) had 14 kills and 19 digs. Junior middle blocker Katie Kociszewski (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) totaled 10 kills and three blocks. Junior setter Jessee Jonathan (Basom, N.Y./Akron) had 48 assists, 22 digs and four aces. Junior libero Natalie Ruhlmann (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) finished with 31 digs, three assists and two blocks.
Against the Badgers, Adams continued to lead the way with 13 kills, and a block. Prest had six kills, two aces and seven digs. Layer posted five kills, four aces and 22 assists. Junior libero
Morgan Buckley (Third Lake, Ill./Grayslake North) registered 11 digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Max Ludlow (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) led the Badgers with 11 kills, two aces, a block, 14 assists and nine digs. Freshman Vivie Babbott (Hinesburg, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) had 10 kills. Freshman Sasha Khomutetsky (Hollywood, Calif./Larchmont Charter School) picked up eight digs and three aces. Senior Mercedes Durden (Fuerth, Germany/Vilseck) had nine digs and an ace.
The Bears are back in action next Saturday, when they head to Elmira College for a tri-match. They face SUNY Cobleskill at 1 p.m. and the host Soaring Eagles at 3 p.m.
