PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Plattsburgh State (5-0-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) scored four times in the second half for a 4-0 win over the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (3-2-1, 0-1) in the teams' SUNYAC opener. Senior goalie
Lucas Schiel (Bremen, Germany/Colegio Humboldt) finished with six saves for the Bears.
The Cardinals were on the offensive from the outset. They fired 11 shots toward Potsdam's goal, but only two shots made it to Schiel. The contest was scoreless at the break.
Plattsburgh finally broke through in the 58th minute. Brian Coughlan made it 1-0 on a penalty kick. The Cardinals continued to press and doubled the lead on a goal from Xavier Kamba at 63:15. Frankie Palumbo made it 3-0 at 86:42. Jack Healy then closed the scoring with 50 seconds on the clock.
Teddy Healy made one save to earn the shutout for Plattsburgh.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they head to Oswego State for a 1 p.m. contest.
