HOOKSETT, N.H.—Sophomore forward
Jeremy Quesnel (Alexandria, Ontario/Hawkesbury Hawks) scored the equalizer as the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (4-11-1) rallied to tie Southern New Hampshire University (5-7-2) 1-1 on Wednesday evening. Junior goalie
John Werber (Skillman, N.J./Team Maryland) made a career-high 47 saves to earn the tie.
The Penmen had the only power play of the first period and outshot the Bears 15-7. At the 16:26 mark, Alex Muthersbaugh scored an even strength goal. SNHU led 1-0 after one.
Quesnel got Potsdam even just 1:12 into the second period. Freshman forward
Jakub Hall (Anchorage, Alaska/Richmond Generals) and junior captain
Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets) each assisted on the play. The Penmen had three power plays in the period, including a five-on-three change late. However, Werber and the Bears defense held. The score was even through 40 minutes.
There were no penalties or goals in the third period. SNHU outshot Potsdam 14-9 in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
The Penmen stayed on the attack in the extra session, finishing with a 7-3 advantage in shots. Werber stayed sharp and the contest remained frozen at 1-1.
SNHU goalie Sean Guerin made 27 stops for the win.
The Bears return to SUNYAC play next Wednesday, when they travel to Morrisville State for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
