Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Lakers down Bears despite two goals from Teachout

OSWEGO, N.Y.—Oswego State (7-6-1, 5-3-1 SUNYAC) scored twice in the first and second periods en route to a 5-2 win over the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (6-7, 2-5) on Friday evening. Graduate student forward Megan Teachout (Auburn, N.Y./Oswego State) scored two goals against her old team and sophomore forward Megan Mills (Mono, Ontario/North York Storm) had two assists.

The Lakers pressured Potsdam early on and earned their first power play at the 8:47 mark. Leah Coley got Oswego on the board just as the penalty ended. Six minutes later, the Bears earned their first power play, but weren't able to find the equalizer. Mack Hull doubled the Lakers' advantage just 30 seconds later, at 18:37. Potsdam went on the man advantage with just over a minute left in the first, but the score was still 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Oswego managed to kill the penalty and added a third goal minutes later in the second period. At 6:33, Tessa Mucha made it a 3-0 game. After the Bears killed another Laker power play, Teachout finally solved Oswego goalie Lexi Levy to close the gap to two at 11:56. Junior forward Lyvia Chambers (Buffalo, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) and Mills picked up the assists. The momentum was short lived as the Lakers got their fourth goal from Megan Buxton just 30 seconds later. Oswego was up 4-1 after two periods.

Mucha netted her second of the contest just 1:55 into the third period. After another successful penalty kill, Teachout struck again at 15:03. Mills notched her second assist of the night on the goal.

Sophomore goalie Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 25 saves for the Bears and Levy stopped 21 shots for the win. The Bears were 0-for-4 on the power play and the Lakers went 0-for-5.

The two teams meet up again tomorrow in Oswego at 3 p.m.
