ONEONTA, N.Y.—SUNY Oneonta (7-9, 4-4 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (3-13, 2-7) 92-60 on Saturday afternoon. Senior guard
Colton Huestis (Ticonderoga, N.Y./Ticonderoga) led the Bears with 18 points.
It was a back and forth contest early. Huestis hit a jumper at 15:37 to give Potsdam a 12-11 lead. The Red Dragons then started a 13-0 run over the next five minutes and were up 24-12 at 10:57. Oneonta continued to pull away over the rest of the half and hit the locker room up 42-21.
The hosts never took their foot of the gas in the second half, continuing to extend their advantage. The Bears did shoot 50-percent (7-14) from three in the final 20 minutes. They were led by freshman guard
Erik Wall (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) who hit three 3-pointers and scored all of his career-high 11 points in the second half. Huestis scored 10 points in the second and junior guard
Jeff Williamson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King), junior forward
Parker Kelly (Beekmantown, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and freshman guard
Chris Ashlaw (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) all scored from beyond the arc.
Elijah Castillo led all scorers with 25 points to go with 10 rebounds for Oneonta. Graham Wooden had 17 points and Xavier Hill scored nine points and grabbed 12 boards.
The Bears are back in action next Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they head to SUNY Brockport.
