The host Brewers overpowered Potsdam in the opening match, taking 25-18, 25-16 and 25-12 decisions. Sophomore outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) led the Bears with five kills, two blocks and three digs. Junior middle hitter
Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) also had five kills and two blocks. Senior captain
Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) posted 11 assists, while freshman setter
Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) added six. Senior libero
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) had three digs and senior outside hitter
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) had two and an assist.
Eli Lee and Walter Birnbaum led Vassar with eight kills each. Lee also had five blocks. Billy Fan had five kills, an ace and six digs. Nick Vallamil had 12 assists and five digs.
The Bears started quickly against the Raiders, taking set one 26-24. However, Rivier responded with 25-12, 25-23 and 25-17 wins. Tenhagen recorded another 10 kills to go with two blocks and an ace. Kilinski added nine kills and three blocks. Senior outside hitter
Sam Day (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) had five kills and six digs. Anderson posted 19 assists and six digs. Lombardo had nine assists and an ace and Rogers totaled seven digs.
Isaac Borges paced the Raiders with 13 kills and six blocks. Neil Rea had seven kills, three aces, 26 assists and eight digs. Racine Camara totaled seven kills and two blocks. Davin Siharath contributed 13 assists and Peter White had seven digs and four assists. Sokunbuth Ly had six digs and an ace. Matthew McCloskey rounded out the leaders with five blocks.
The Bears are back in action at Elmira College at 7 p.m. on Friday.
