BROCKPORT, N.Y.— Freshman goalie
Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) made 44 saves, including 23 in the third period, to shut out SUNY Brockport (6-11-2, 3-7 SUNYAC) 2-0 on Friday evening. The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (6-12-1, 3-7) got goals from sophomore forward
Mason Hoehn (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Richmond Generals) and senior forward
Jack Loran (Massena, N.Y./New England Wolves). Junior captain
Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets) had two assists.
The first period was a defensive battle. The Golden Eagles outshot Potsdam just 8-7. There were no penalties or scoring. Freshman goalie
Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) and Brockport tender Dylan Wiemer were sharp.
The second period started in much the same fashion, clean low scoring hockey. There were no penalties through the middle stanza either. The Eagles slowly built an 13-7 shot advantage. However, it was the Bears striking first. Hoehn broke the stalemate with two seconds remaining. Rose assisted on the goals. The Bears were up 1-0 through 40 minutes.
Brockport was all over Potsdam in the third period, outshooting the Bears 23-6. The Golden Eagles also had the contest's only power play. It wasn't enough. Perno stopped everything that came his way Brockport pulled goalie Dylan Wiemer for an extra attacker with 1:26 left. At the 53-second mark, Loran scored the empty-net goal with another assist from Rose.
Wiemer finished with 18 saves and Brockport was 0-for-1 on the power play.
The Bears head to SUNY Geneseo tomorrow afternoon for a 5 p.m. contest.
