BUFFALO, N.Y.—Graduate student forward
Megan Teachout (Auburn, N.Y./Oswego State) scored three times and sophomore goalie
Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) didn't allow a goal in the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team's (9-9, 5-7 SUNYAC) 4-0 win over Buffalo State (1-17-1, 0-13) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman forward
Jalynn Castro (Dexter, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) also scored for the Bears.
Teachout and Potsdam jumped on the Bengals right out of the gate. She made it 1-0 just 1:06 into the contest with assists from sophomore forward
Rebecca Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) and freshman defenseman
Jessika Bullock (Norfolk, N.Y./Adirondack 46ers). The Bears had two power plays over the rest of the period, but couldn't take advantage, while Buffalo State had one. The shots finished even at 11 apiece, but Parent turned aside each one that came her way.
The Bears scored twice in the second period. Castro scored at the 14:33 mark. Sophomore forward
Alessia Marandola (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Jr. Hornets) and Teachout assisted on the goal. Nine seconds later, the Bengals were called for boarding and Potsdam took advantage. At 15:05, Teachout notched her second of the game and the Bears' second goal in 32 seconds. Graduate student assistant captain
Alex Quinn (Potsdam, N.Y./St. Lawrence Steel) and Cain had the assists. Buffalo State had four power-play opportunities in the middle 20 minutes, but trailed 3-0 after two.
After back-and-forth play to start the third period, Teachout completed her hat trick at 13:20 with a helper from Bullock. The Bengals had three more power plays, but still couldn't crack the scoreboard. Parent stopped another nine shots in the third period.
Parent finished with 31 saves for her second shutout of the season and sixth career win. Chelsea Kingston stopped 21 shots for the Bengals. Potsdam was 1-for-5 on the power play and Buffalo State was 0-for-8.
The Bears are back in action on Friday when they host 15th-ranked SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m.
