Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fredonia escapes Bears with last second bucket, 70-69

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Fredonia (5-5, 2-1 SUNYAC) scored with two seconds remaining to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (2-9, 1-3) 70-69 on Saturday afternoon. Senior guard Isaac Oduro Jr. (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) led the Bears with a career-high 16 points. Junior forward Kawar Singh (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) also had a personal best 13 points and matched a career-high 20 points for his second straight double-double.

Potsdam started off the contest red hot with a 10-0 run. Junior forward Parker Kelly (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) scored four of the points and Oduro had three. The Blue Devils had a 17-11 answer. Junior guard AJ Judd (Washington, D.C./Theodore Roosevelt) hit a three at 10:44 and Fredonia was within in 21-17. Potsdam led 28-26 at 5:08, but a 6-0 burst, all on free throws gave them some breathing room. With 1:44 left in the half, junior guard Jeff Williamson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) scored from long range to give the Bears a 37-31 lead. Freshman guard Derek Reed (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) responded with consecutive buckets to get the Blue Devils within 37-35 with 56 seconds left. A layup from freshman guard Nicholas Cortez (New York, N.Y./Forest Hills) and two free throws from Singh sent the Bears into the locker room up 41-37.

The Devils clawed their way back to within 43-42 57 seconds into the second half before Potsdam answered with an 8-0 run. Kelly contributed a dunk and Oduro had a 3-pointer during  the stretch. The pendulum quickly swung back in the other direction as Fredonia scored eight straight. A layup from freshman guard Keenan Roberts, Jr. (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) gave the Blue Devils their first lead of the contest, 57-55, at 10:35. Senior guard Colton Huestis (Ticonderoga, N.Y./Ticonderoga) got the Bears even with two free throws at 9:42. Fredonia was unable to pull away, but managed to stay in front until Oduro scored consecutive baskets, tying the game with a jumper at 0:36 to make it 68-68. With eight seconds remaining, Huestis stole the ball and was fouled, sending him to the line. He hit the first and Fredonia grabbed the rebound after a miss on the second and called timeout. The Blue Devils inbounded the ball and junior guard Malik Jemison (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) hit the game-winning layup from the right side of the paint.

Kelly and Huestis each finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

Jemison led the Blue Devils with 16 points, five assists and four boards. Junior forward Tyrese Fuller (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) totaled 15 points and eight boards. Roberts also finished in double digits with 12 points and also grabbed five rebounds.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Plattsburgh State at 7:30 p.m.
