POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY New Paltz (6-2-2, 1-0-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-8, 0-2) 5-0 on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior forward Rachel Eisert (Bellmore, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham) opened the scoring at 9:26 with an assist from junior forward Brooke Kelleher (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West).
- Eisert struck again just 2:23 later, this time with a helper from senior midfielder Alexis DeLeo (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury).
- At 29:31, graduate student Kennedy Jones (Albany, N.Y./Albany) finished a long pass from senior midfielder Emma Voege (East Northport, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn).
- At 51:57, senior forward Gaby Treble (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) made the most of a penalty kick to make it 4-0.
- Junior midfielder Laney Schmitz (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) closed the scoring at 70:02, knocking home a loose ball off a corner kick.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Vines (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) made nine saves for the Bears.
- Senior goalie Maddie Franklin (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) earned the win with a save in the first half. Freshman keeper Jess Centeri (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) stopped three shots in the second half for New Paltz.
- The Hawks now lead the all-time series, which dates to 1988, 17-13-6.
