POTSDAM, N.Y.—Plattsburgh State (10-2-3, 5-2-1 SUNYAC) scored twice in each half to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (5-8-3, 1-6-1) 4-0 on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals got on the board at 9:01 off a corner kick that was inadvertently headed into the Bears net by a Potsdam player.
- Senior forward Modou Badjie (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) made it 2-0 at 20:33 with an assist from sophomore forward Tristan Laundree (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley).
- Senior midfielder John Hayes (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) added a third goal at 55:07 on helper from junior midfielder Santiago Vargas (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage).
- At 64:33, Hayes struck again to close the scoring with an assist from freshman defender Jack Murphy (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Plattsburgh outshot the Bears 17-6 and edged Potsdam 4-3 in corner kicks.
- Junior goalie Ian Schwartz (Amsterdam, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) made four saves in the first 74:34 for Potsdam and freshman keeper James Kelm (Chester, N.Y./Chester Academy) stopped one shot in the last 15:26.
- Senior goalie Teddy Healy (Amityville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) made one save in the first 67:59 to earn the win for Plattsburgh, while freshman Matthew D'Ippolito (Baldwin Place, N.Y./Somers) turned aside one more chance in the final 22:01.
