Cains, Proulx and Ferguson shine as Bears blank Monarchs, 3-0

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (1-0) scored twice early and defeated King's College (0-1) 3-0 in the season opener.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior forward Rebecca Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) knocked home a rebound off a shot from junior forward Josie Purdy (White Lake, Nova Scotia/Ontario Hockey Academy) to put the Bears up 1-0 at 3:01.
  • Junior defenseman Rachelle Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) scored a power-play goal from the right point at 5:28 to double the lead. Sophomore forward Jalynn Castro (Dexter, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) and Rebecca Cain each assisted on the goal.
  • Junior defenseman Victoria Proulx (Rockland, Ontario/Post University) made it a 3-0 game at 3:49 of the third period on a shot from the right point. Junior forward Alessia Marandola (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Jr. Hornets) and Rebecca Cain assisted on the goal.
