POTSDAM, N.Y.—Fifth-ranked SUNY Cortland (4-1, 2-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (2-2-1, 0-2-1) 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior forward Natalie O'Brien (Lockport, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles U19) opened the scoring at 4:26 of the first period with assists from senior forward Meggan Cramer (Cicero, N.Y./Northwood School) and junior defenseman Ella Irwinski (Batavia, Ill./New England College).
- Exactly three minutes later, the Red Dragons added a power-play goal from senior forward Mia Hlasnick (Olean, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles). Junior defensemen Kayla Persinger (Youngstown, N.Y./Newark Ironbound) and Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) assisted on the goal.
- Junior forward Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden) made it 3-0 at 4:03 of the second period with a helper from sophomore forward Katie Mahoney (Toronto, Ontario/Toronto Leaside U22).
- Mahoney then scored at 11:38 of the middle stanza with assists from Hlasnick and senior defenseman Gillian Zwolak (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Ancaster Avalanche).
- Hlasnick scored Cortland's fifth goal at 14:16 of the second period.
- Graduate student captain Taylor Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./St. Lawrence Steel) got the Bears on the board at 14:13 of the third period, roofing a pass from junior forward Alessia Marandola (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Jr. Hornets) while in the slot. Graduate student forward Rebecca Holmes (Lawtons, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) had the second assist.
- Sophomore forward Drew Kopek (Rome, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles U19) scored a power-play goal from the left faceoff circle with an assist from Cramer to close the scoring with just 21 seconds left.

- Cortland outshot the Bears 32-16.
- The Red Dragons were 2-for-6 on the power play and Potsdam went 0-for-3.
- Freshman goalie Maddy Ferguson (Medicine Hat, Alberta/South Alberta Hockey Academy) stopped 26 shots for the Bears.
- Senior goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie H.S.) made 15 saves.
