Clarkson overpowers Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Clarkson University (3-3) started quickly and never let up in a 62-39 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (3-3) on Tuesday night.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Knights got off to a 9-2 start and led 20-9 after one quarter. Bears senior guard Xy'El Bradford (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse Academy of Science) scored seven points for Potsdam in the opening 10 minutes.
  • Clarkson continued to attack in the second quarter, outscoring Potsdam 14-8. The Golden Knights took a 34-17 lead into the half.
  • Clarkson increased its lead with a 21-14 third quarter and led 55-31 after 30 minutes. Sophomore guard Sara Richards (AuSable Valley, N.Y./AuSable Valley) scored eight points in the third and junior forward DaeLynn Alcock (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) added five for the Bears.
  • Potsdam outscored Clarkson 8-7 in the low scoring fourth quarter, but the Golden Knights closed out the 62-39 win. Freshmen guards Amaya Moore (Hudson, N.Y./Hudson) and Chelsea Ni (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg) each scored three points in the fourth.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Clarkson shot 45.1-percent from the floor, including 46.4 from 3-point range, while holding the Bears to 29.7.
  • The Golden Knights also finished with a 32-24 edge on the glass.
  • Bradford and Richards each led the Bears with eight points.
  • Alcock and senior forward Jenna Cotter (Johnson City, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) each scored five.
  • Junior forward Bella Doyle (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) led Clarkson with 18 points and nine rebounds.
 
The Bears are now off until Friday, December 6, when they travel to SUNY Cortland to open SUNYAC play at 5:30 p.m.
