POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (14-9) defeated St. Lawrence University (7-18) and SUNY Poly (2-22) by identical 3-1 scores on Saturday afternoon. The tri-match marked the end of the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (SLU)
- The teams stayed even or within two points of each other in set one until the SLU was able to create just enough separation for the 25-22 win. Senior middle hitter Lexi Price (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and sophomore outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) each had two kills.
- The Bears led for most of set two and rallied late for a 25-23 win. Senior outside hitter Alyssa Adams (Jamestown, N.Y./Randolph) had three kills.
- In set three, Potsdam again came from behind late to grab a 27-25 win. Henry had five more kills and Prest chipped in four.
- The Bears finished off the Saints in similar fashion in the fourth set, 25-23, to take the match 3-1. Prest led the charge with five kills.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (SLU)
- Prest finished with 14 kills.
- Henry had 11 kills and two aces.
- Adams added seven kills, 11 digs and three blocks.
- Junior setter Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) recorded 33 assists, 12 digs and five aces.
- Sophomore setter Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) had 20 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (POLY)
- In set one, the teams traded leads, but the Wildcats closed on a 10-2 run to win 25-21. Henry had three kills for the Bears.
- The second set was even midway through, but the Bears pulled ahead and never gave up the lead, winning 25-21. Senior middle hitter Marissa Wagoner (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Henry supplied three kills apiece.
- Potsdam never trailed in set three, downing Poly 25-19. Adams had four kills, while Price, Layer and Henry each had three.
- Potsdam rolled to a 25-17 victory in set four to close out the match. Prest and Adams each added four kills.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (POLY)
- Adams had 10 kills and 20 digs.
- Henry wrapped up her day with nine kills, 15 digs, six assists and three aces.
- Wagoner contributed six kills and two blocks.
- Layer had 24 more assists.
- Price had two blocks and nine digs.
