UTICA, N.Y.—SUNY Poly (3-4) used red hot shooting to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-7) 99-67 on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats never trailed during the contest.
- Layups from sophomore guard Mohammad Sylla (Bronx, N.Y./Darrow) and freshman guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) got the Bears within 16-13 at 14:06 of the first half, but SUNY Poly headed into the break on a 34-17 run and led 50-30.
- The Wildcats shot 50-percent (10-20) from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.
- SUNY Poly started the second half on a 12-0 run and never slowed down.

- The Wildcats shot 50.7-percent from the floor for the whole 40 minutes, including a
51.5 pace from beyond-the-arc.
- The Bears finished with a 37.9-percent shooting percentage.
- SUNY Poly had a 50-32 advantage in rebounding.
- Sophomore guard Nicholas Cortez (Harlem, N.Y./La Salle Academy) led Potsdam with 15 points and five boards.
- Sylla finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
- Hancock and sophomore Erik Wall (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) each recorded 10 points each.
