BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (6-2, 5-0 SUNYAC) scored twice in the first and second periods to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (4-7, 2-3) 4-0 on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sutton Murray opened the scoring at 3:41of the first period with assists from Don Powell and Andrey Manov.
- Michael Marquez scored a shorthanded goal at 11:04 of the first to give the Bengals a 2-0 lead. Tyler Penree picked up the assist.
- The Bengals made it 3-0 on a power-play marker from Austin Micale at 7:52 of the second period. Joe Glamos had the assists.
- David Tolan made it 4-0 with an unassisted marker at 12:03 of the second stanza.
- An incident leading to the boards being damaged created a lengthy delay in the third, but the score didn't change when play resumed.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Buffalo State outshot the Bears 34-19.
- The Bengals were 1-for-4 on the power play and Potsdam went 0-for-2.
- Senior goalie John Werber (Skillman, N.J./Team Maryland) made three saves and allowed two goals in the first 8:50.
- Sophomore goalie Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) made 27 saves and allowed two goals in the last 51:10.
- Marcus Cumberworth stopped all 19 shots he faced for the shutout.
