OSWEGO, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (3-3-1, 0-3-1 SUNYAC) scored first, but ninth-ranked Oswego State (6-0-1, 4-0-1) rallied for a 4-1 win on Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers generated a lot of pressure in the first period, but it was the Bears drawing first blood. Tuesday's hero, graduate student forward Rebecca Holmes (Lawtons, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons), scored a shorthanded goal at 7:51 to make it 1-0. Junior forward Rebecca Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) assisted on the play.
- The Bears evened out the play in the second period, but Oswego netted the equalizer at 2:27. Tilly Pethrick knotted the score with assists from Ashlyn McGrath and Elizabeth Cooley.
- The Lakers took the lead at 14:48 of the third period. Simone Bednarik scored on a wrister from the slot off a feed from Solana Zizzo.
- Sydney Pinti gave Oswego an insurance marker at 16:11 with an assist from Erika Parenti.
- McGrath sealed the game with an empty-netter with 24 seconds left to make it 4-1. Parenti and Cooley had the assists.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Lakers outshot the Bears 41-18.
- Oswego was 0-for-3 on the power-play and Potsdam went 0-for-2.
- Junior goalie Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 37 saves for the Bears.
- Lexi Levy stopped 17 shots to earn the win for the Lakers.
