PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Sophomore goalie
Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made a career-high 49 saves as the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (9-13, 5-11 SUNYAC) fell a goal short in a 1-0 loss to second-ranked Plattsburgh State (20-2-1, 15-1) on Saturday afternoon.
Today's contest started very similarly to yesterday's. The Cardinals created and sustained strong pressure and Potsdam's defense and Parent held them off. With less than two minutes to go, the Bears were called for interference. Mattie Norton took advantage of the power play with 37 seconds remaining in the first period and opened the scoring. It was 1-0 Plattsburgh after one.
The Cardinals started the second period on the power play. The Bears killed the penalty, but Plattsburgh kept the momentum in the period thanks in part to two more power plays. Parent continued to stand tall, turning aside all 18 shots that came her way. The score was unchanged at the end of the second.
The third period was more of the same. Plattsburgh took 16 more shots on Parent and each team had another unsuccessful power play. The Bears goaltender was perfect in the third period as well as, however Potsdam came up just short.
Lilla Nease made 17 saves to earn the shutout. Plattsburgh was 1-for-6 on the power play the Bears were 0-for-2.
The Bears are back in action on Friday, at 3 p.m. when they host Morrisville State at 3 p.m.
