Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Morrisville blanks Bears, 2-0

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Morrisville State (12-12, 7-10 SUNYAC) scored twice in the second period for a 2-0 win over the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (9-14, 5-12) on Friday night. Sophomore goalie Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec / Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 27 saves for the Bears.

Potsdam outshot the Mustangs 12-8 in the opening period. The Bears created the best chances of the first, some coming on the period's lone power play. Both Parent and Morrisville sophomore goalie Maggie Jones (Marystown, Labrador/Mount Academy) kept the contest scoreless through 20 minutes.

The score remained even until the 4:22 mark. Junior forward Kennedy Kirkby (Prescott, Ontario/Cornwall Typhoons) knocked home a rebound to finish an odd-player rush and the Mustangs led 1-0. Potsdam took a hooking penalty at the 16:19 mark. At 17:38, senior forward Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y./Vermont Stars) scored from the right side of the crease. Morrisville outshot the Bears 10-6 and led 2-0 after two.

The Mustangs had two power plays in the third period and the Bears had one, but the score didn't change. Morrisville outshot Potsdam 12-10. The Bears pulled Parent with 16 seconds remaining, but couldn't solve Jones.

Jones finished with 28 saves to earn the shutout. Potsdam was 0-for-2 on the power play and Morrisville went 1-for-3.

The teams meet again at 3 p.m. tomorrow on Senior Day for the Bears.
